The old 3-screen movie theater at Montgomery Mall is now under new management/ownership. Gone is the old owner and name. Now we are "The Movies at Montgomery Mall." We are an independent locally owned movie company and we have just completed an expensive renovation to the theater and it looks fantastic. We have all new floors and walls and we replaced all of the old ripped seats with comfy leather recliners. Additionally, we reduced the number of seats in each theater by 30% to create spacious rows with plenty of leg room. People are coming from miles and miles away to marvel at the new hip look. We are getting all of the current new hit films and have created a separate game-room which can double as a party room. Our Theater #1 is one of the largest in Montgomery County and, with a new digital projector, is available for private group showings of any movie ever made.
The Montgomery Mall 3 Theater opened as a KB Theater in 1985.
The theater originally had a smaller lobby, owned the adjacent arcade (now UA Nails) and operated an ice cream parlor in the space that currently houses a game room.
In 1994, Cineplex Odeon, as part of their acquisition of then bankrupt KB, took over the lease of the theater and promptly renovated the lobby in what they called a "Jewel Box" style. However, the 1994 renovations never went past the theater lobby.
The Sony/Loews chain merged with ailing Cineplex Odeon as Loews Cineplex Entertainment (some 2,900 screens nationwide) in 1998. Fierce competition and over-expansion saw Loews Cineplex go into Chapter 11 in 2001.
It was early 2001 that bankrupt Loews Cineplex dropped its lease to The Montgomery Mall 3. A local independent theater chain picked up the lease within weeks of Loews abandonment of the property. Unfortunately, that local chain did little else than change signs or open & close the doors for business during their tenure of the Montgomery Mall 3
It was in February of 2010 that the Goldstein Brothers, under the "Movies" banner, took over the Theater.
The number one theater, originally a 70mm house, is now a digital auditorium with Real D 3D. The screen & sound systems have been replaced. New processors, amplifiers, and 10 sub woofers have been added to the experience as well.
Theaters two and three have also been brought into the 21st century, with new projectors and DTS digital sound systems.
New leather seats, floors, and concession stand are just a few more of the hundreds of changes and improvements that have been made to the Theater since February 2010.
